Once registered with a .lu accredited registrar, a .lu domain name may be moved to another accredited registrar.

This action, also known as a transfer, may be carried out by anyone who wants to take such an approach (an owner, outside technical contractor, etc.) with the selected new registrar.

However, no transfer can take place without the approval of the person designated as the current domain name's administrative contact. The old registrar, meanwhile, plays no role in the transfer process

1
Management transfer request

The request initiator requests a management transfer to another accredited registrar.

2
Management transfer

The registrar performs a management transfer from the EPP server, the communication interface between the .lu registry and the registrar, using the protocol set by the .lu registry.

3
Asking to approve the request

The registry emails the domain name's administrative contact a unique link (valid for 15 days) to a web interface dedicated to approving the request.

If no approval is made within 7 days, an automatic reminder email is sent to the administrative contact and to the requesting registrar.

4
Management transfer approval

The domain name's administrative contact approves the management transfer, via the link provided for that purpose on the web interface, or by signing the management transfer paper document to submit to the .lu registry.

5
Management transfer

The .lu registry transfers management of the domain name to the new registrar.

6
Information

The registrar informs the owner that the management transfer was completed properly and begins a new subscription period.

Info! In order for the management transfer process to work, the email address of the domain name's administrative contact must have been properly recorded and accessible by the registrar managing the name.
